Kapiti Coast
The Kapiti Coast is a peaceful 50 minute drive north of Wellington city. It has five main townships, Paekakariki, Raumati, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Levin and Otaki that are evenly spaced along 40 kilometres of attractive coastal line.
The coast is sheltered from the south by the massive Tararua Ranges and by Kapiti Island which sits to the west of the mainland. The result is a spectacular landscape and microclimate that has made the Kapiti Coast one of the most desirable places in the world to live. It explains why the major growth industry of the 1990s has been retirement villages, which attract residents from many parts of the world.
The Kapiti Coast is renowned for its beautiful climate and lifestyle with all areas being popular holiday destinations. Over a short space of time Kapiti has grown from being a beach holiday settlement and farming area to Wellington's fastest growing district. However, it still holds the charm of a smaller community making it a beautiful, restful place that has as many of the modern services and opportunities you could want. Kapiti is a great place for young and old.
