Capital Real Estate first began in a Kelburn house in 1976 but now for over 30 years has focused on the Lower Hutt real estate market, selling more than any other agency in the city since 1998.

The business is owned by John Ross a local resident, who joined Capital Real Estate in 1981 and opened the Lower Hutt branch in 1982. After five years, John purchased the branch, and joined The Professionals marketing group in 1989. The company opened a branch in Stokes Valley (a suburb of Lower Hutt) in 1989, and expanded into other suburbs when it purchased the Wainuiomata branch in 2007, and opening the Eastbourne Office in 2008.
