About Our Region

We think it's one of the country's best- kept secrets that Southland is the best place to live.  But, because we love it so much, we're willing to let you in on the secret.
Living in a region comes with so many unseen benefits.  Once you've experienced life in any part of Southland, you'll be loath to ever leave.
Southland offers an attractive lifestyle with affordable housing.   The country's lowest average house prices together with nationally competitive salaries offer many families a higher discretionary income than they can enjoy elsewhere in New Zealand.  You will also find a vibrant, family friendly community with traditional values.  Southland is a place where you are not swept along by the fast pace of city life, but where you can choose the lifestyle you have only dreamt of.
An agricultural powerhouse, Southland is home to the world's largest raw milk processing plant along with New Zealand's only aluminium smelter.  Low house prices attract residents, world-ranked national parks draw many tourists and  low fee study at the local Institute of Technology draw students.

Invercargill is Southland's biggest city and is the gateway to all the great things of the southern South Island.  Surrounded by rural, green plains, the wilderness of western Fiordland, the alpine adventure playground of Queenstown to the north and rugged coastline and Stewart Island to the south.
As the southern-most city in New Zealand, Invercargill  is known for its wide streets, little traffic, and the long summer daylight hours making it easy to navigate the city layout and enjoy the cultural attractions, sporting facilities, nature reserves and parks, cafes, restaurants and bars.
They say Southland is the only part of New Zealand with a regional accent, which is the rolling of their R's.  This was presumed to have developed from the Scottish settlers, so  ask a Southlander to say the phrase:  "Dirty Purple Work Shirt"  hehe..
Now that our secret it out come and experience our region for yourself.
